Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

The subconscious mind governs how one behaves, emotes, imagines and recalls.  These facets of the subconscious mind are shaped during the course of our lives by our experiences and perceptions – what we see, hear, taste, smell and touch. Sometimes these experiences affect us in ways that produce undesirable consequences.  We often create what are called critical thoughts or judgments – which at times can result in symptoms that negatively affect the quality of our lives.

Critical thoughts or judgments essentially are all of those thoughts which cause us to act or behave one way or another.  We create these thoughts to protect ourselves. Problems occur, however, when critical thoughts or judgments produce adverse symptoms, and prevent us from achieving our goals, and living our lives to the fullest.

Here are a few basic examples of critical thought:

  • Excessively associating food with comfort or security to the point of overeating and unwanted weight gain.
  • An overwhelming sense of helplessness or loss of control which creates anxiety, fears, etc.
  • A “mental-block” which destroys confidence in being able to achieve a task or goal.
  • Allowing unfounded or unnecessary beliefs that one will be embarrassed or incapable of speaking in front of a group, or unable to interact socially, etc.

What works greatly in our favor, however, is that by nature the subconscious mind is very open to suggestion.  This is where hypnosis comes in.  Hypnosis unlocks one’s potential to positively affect behavior and self-imagery in the subconscious mind, and subsequently thereafter in the conscious mind.

The objective of hypnotherapy then, is to overcome or abate these critical thoughts and judgments in the conscious mind by making suggestions to the subconscious mind – producing positive outcomes, and alleviating symptoms and underlying causes.
